An Act to amend the Ministers of State Act 1952 and other legislation in relation to Parliamentary Secretaries, and for other purposes

The Parliament of Australia enacts:
1 Short title
This Act may be cited as the Ministers of State and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2000.
2 Commencement
(1) Subject to subsection (2), this Act commences on a day to be fixed by Proclamation.
(2) If this Act does not commence under subsection (1) within the period of 6 months beginning on the day on which it receives the Royal Assent, it commences on the first day after the end of that period.
3 Schedule(s)
Each Act that is specified in a Schedule to this Act is amended or repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this Act has effect according to its terms.
Schedule 1—Amendment of the Ministers of State Act 1952
1 Section 4 Repeal the section, substitute:
4 Number of Ministers
The number of the Ministers of State must not exceed: (a) in the case of those designated, when appointed by the Governor‑General, as Parliamentary Secretary—12; and (b) in the case of those not so designated—30.
