An Act to amend the National Health Act 1953, and for related purposes

The Parliament of Australia enacts:

1 Short title

This Act may be cited as the National Health Amendment Act (No. 1) 2000.

2 Commencement

(1) Subject to this section, this Act commences on the day on which it receives the Royal Assent.

(2) Items 2 and 10 of Schedule 1 commence immediately before the end of 30 June 2000.

(3) The rest of the items of Schedule 1 commence on 1 July 2000.

3 Schedule(s)

Subject to section 2, each Act that is specified in a Schedule to this Act is amended or repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this Act has effect according to its terms.

4 Regulations

(1) Before 1 January 2001 the Governor‑General may make regulations prescribing matters of a transitional or saving nature arising from the amendments made by this Act.

(2) At any time the Governor‑General may repeal regulations made under subsection (1).

Schedule 1—Amendment of the National Health Act 1953

1 Subsection 84(1) (definition of professional allowance) Repeal the definition.

2 Subsection 90(3C) Omit "2000", substitute "2005".

3 Paragraph 98B(1)(b) Repeal the paragraph.
