An Act to amend the Motor Vehicle Standards Act 1989, and for related purposes

The Parliament of Australia enacts:

1 Short title

This Act may be cited as the Motor Vehicle Standards Amendment Act 2001.

2 Commencement

(1) Subject to subsection (2), this Act commences on a day to be fixed by Proclamation.

(2) If this Act does not commence under subsection (1) within the period of 6 months beginning on the day on which it receives the Royal Assent, it commences on the first day after the end of that period.

3 Schedule(s)

Each Act that is specified in a Schedule to this Act is amended or repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this Act has effect according to its terms.

4 Transitional—old approvals

Section 10A approvals that cease to be in force

(1) If, immediately before the commencement of this Act, an approval (the old approval) was in force under section 10A of the Motor Vehicle Standards Act 1989 in respect of used imported vehicles of a particular type, then, immediately after the commencement of this Act: (a) the old approval ceases to be in force; and (b) the Minister is taken to have granted an approval (the transitional approval) under subsection 16(2) of that Act in respect of used imported vehicles of that type.
