The Parliament of Australia enacts:

1 Short title

This Act may be cited as the Industrial Chemicals (Notification and Assessment) Amendment (Rotterdam Convention) Act 2004.

2 Commencement

(1) Each provision of this Act specified in column 1 of the table commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect according to its terms.

Schedule 1 The later of: 18 August 2004 (a) the start of the day on which this Act receives the Royal Assent; and (paragraph (b) applies) (b) the day on which the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade, done at Rotterdam on 10 September 1998, enters into force for Australia. If the provision(s) commence on the day mentioned in paragraph (b), the Minister must announce by notice in the Gazette the day on which the provision(s) commenced.
