An Act to amend the Ombudsman Act 1976 and the law relating to migration, and for related purposes

The Parliament of Australia enacts:
1 Short title
This Act may be cited as the Migration and Ombudsman Legislation Amendment Act 2005.
2 Commencement
(1) Each provision of this Act specified in column 1 of the table commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect according to its terms.

However, if item 16 of Schedule 1 to the Postal Industry Ombudsman Act 2006 does not commence at or before the start of the day on which this Act receives the Royal Assent, the provision(s) do not commence at all. 5. Schedule 2, item 27 The day on which this Act receives the Royal Assent. 12 December 2005 However, if item 16 of Schedule 1 to the Postal Industry Ombudsman Act 2006 commences at or before the start of the day on which this Act receives the Royal Assent, the provision(s) do not commence at all. 6. Schedule 2, items 28 to 31 The later of: 6 October 2006 (a) the start of the day on which this Act receives the Royal Assent; and (paragraph (b) applies) (b) immediately after the commencement of item 11 of Schedule 1 to the Postal Industry Ombudsman Act 2006. However, the provision(s) do not commence at all if the event mentioned in paragraph (b) does not occur. 7. Schedule 2, item 32 Immediately before the commencement of item 16 of Schedule 1 to the Postal Industry Ombudsman Act 2006. 6 October 2006 However, if item 16 of Schedule 1 to the Postal Industry Ombudsman Act 2006 commences at or before the start of the day on which this Act receives the Royal Assent, the provision(s) do not commence at all. 8. Schedule 3 The day after this Act receives the Royal Assent. 13 December 2005 9. Schedule 4 The day on which this Act receives the Royal Assent. 12 December 2005
