An Act to amend the law relating to the security of maritime transport and offshore facilities, and for related purposes

The Parliament of Australia enacts:
1 Short title
This Act may be cited as the Maritime Transport and Offshore Facilities Security Amendment (Maritime Security Guards and Other Measures) Act 2006.
2 Commencement
(1) Each provision of this Act specified in column 1 of the table commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect according to its terms.

Schedule 1, items 2 to 4 A single day to be fixed by Proclamation. 27 March 2007 However, if any of the provision(s) do not commence within the period of 6 months beginning on the day on which this Act receives the Royal Assent, they commence on the first day after the end of that period. 4. Schedule 2, items 1 to 5 The later of: 28 September 2006 (a) the start of the day after this Act receives the Royal Assent; and (paragraph (a) applies) (b) immediately after the commencement of item 2 of Schedule 1 to the Maritime Transport Security Amendment Act 2005. 5. Schedule 2, items 6 to 8 The later of: 28 September 2006 (a) the start of the day after this Act receives the Royal Assent; and (paragraph (a) applies) (b) immediately after the commencement of item 72 of Schedule 1 to the Maritime Transport Security Amendment Act 2005. 6. Schedule 2, item 9 The later of: 28 September 2006 (a) the start of the day after this Act receives the Royal Assent; and (paragraph (a) applies) (b) immediately after the commencement of item 89 of Schedule 1 to the Maritime Transport Security Amendment Act 2005. 7. Schedule 2, items 10 and 11 The later of: 28 September 2006 (a) the start of the day after this Act receives the Royal Assent; and (paragraph (a) applies) (b) immediately after the commencement of item 2 of Schedule 1 to the Maritime Transport Security Amendment Act 2005.
