The Parliament of Australia enacts:
1 Short title
This Act may be cited as the Law Officers Legislation Amendment Act 2008.
2 Commencement
This Act commences on the day after it receives the Royal Assent.
3 Schedule(s)
Each Act that is specified in a Schedule to this Act is amended or repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this Act has effect according to its terms.
Schedule 1—Amendments
Law Officers Act 1964
1 After section 7 Insert:
7A Effect of sections 6 and 7—long service leave
Sections 6 and 7 have effect subject to the Long Service Leave (Commonwealth Employees) Act 1976.
2 Section 16A Repeal the section.
Long Service Leave (Commonwealth Employees) Act 1976
3 Subsections 10(3) and (4) Omit "or as the Solicitor‑General" (wherever occurring).
4 Subsection 10(4) Omit "or as Solicitor‑General".
5 Application The Long Service Leave (Commonwealth Employees) Act 1976, as amended by this Schedule, applies to a person in respect of any period (whether before or after the commencement of this item) during which the person holds office as the Solicitor‑General if the person was appointed as Solicitor‑General after 31 December 1997.
