An Act to amend the law relating to the protection of the Antarctic environment, and for related purposes

The Parliament of Australia enacts:

1 Short title This Act may be cited as the Antarctic Treaty (Environment Protection) Amendment Act 2010.

2 Commencement (1) Each provision of this Act specified in column 1 of the table commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect according to its terms.

Schedule 1 The later of: 8 December 2016 (a) the day this Act receives the Royal Assent; and (C2017G00205) (b) the day Measure 16, adopted by the XXXIInd Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting at Baltimore on 17 April 2009, comes into force for Australia. (paragraph (b) applies) However, the provision(s) do not commence at all if the event mentioned in paragraph (b) does not occur. The Minister must announce by notice in the Gazette the day the Measure comes into force for Australia.
