Gaming Supervision Act 1998
An Act to establish an administrative structure for the supervision and control of gaming licensed under certain Acts, to provide for its functions and powers and for other purposes.
part 1 — Preliminary
Short title 1. This Act may be cited as the Gaming Supervision Act 1998.
Commencement 2. (1) Section 1 and this section commence on the day on which notification of Assent is published in the Gazette. (2) The remaining provisions commence on a day, or respective days, fixed by the Administrator by notice in the Gazette.
The Crown 3. (1) This Act binds the Crown. (2) Nothing in this Act makes the Crown in any capacity liable to be prosecuted for an offence.
Interpretation 4. In this Act, unless the contrary intention appears — "authorised officer" means an authorised officer appointed under section 16 of this Act; "Authority" means the Norfolk Island Gaming Authority established under section 5 of this Act; "law enforcement agency" means — (a) the Norfolk Island police force; or (b) the police force of a State or Territory of the Commonwealth or New Zealand; or (c) the Australian Federal Police; or (d) any other prescribed authority or person responsible for the enforcement of law; "prescribed Act" means — (a) the Gaming Act 1998; and (b) the Bookmakers and Betting Exchange Act 1998; and (c) any other Act prescribed for the purposes of this definition; and
