Legal Aid Act 1995

An Act relating to the provision of legal assistance.

BE IT ENACTED by the Legislative Assembly of Norfolk Island as follows —

PART 1 — PRELIMINARY

Short title 1. This Act may be cited as the Legal Aid Act 1995.

Commencement 2. This Act commences on 1 July 1995.

Interpretation 3. In this Act unless the contrary intention appears — "approved" means approved in writing by the Minister; "Fund" means the Legal Aid Fund established by section 24; "providing agency" means the Legal Aid Commission (A.C.T.) or such other organisation or person prescribed for the purposes of this definition; "Public Account" means the Public Account of Norfolk Island established by section 47 of the Norfolk Island Act 1979 of the Commonwealth;
