Currency Regulations2 (Amendment)
I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Currency Act 1965.

Commencement 1. These Regulations shall come into operation on 1 January 1988.
Principal Regulations 2. In these Regulations, "Principal Regulations" means the Currency Regulations.
Designs of coins 3. Regulation 4 of the Principal Regulations is amended: (a) by omitting from paragraph (b) (ii) "and"; (b) by omitting paragraph (b) (iii) and substituting the following paragraphs: "(iii) in the case of a coin of the denomination of $2—4 coarse milled segments of the same length separated by 4 plain segments each approximately 13 millimetres in length; and (iv) in any other case—milled;"; (c) by omitting from subparagraph (d) (vi) "(viiia) or (viiib)" and substituting "(viiia), (viiib) or (viiibaa)"; (d) by inserting after subparagraph (d) (viiib) the following paragraph: "(viiibaa) in the case of a coin of the denomination of 50 cents that refers on its obverse side to the year 1988 as the

year of the coin—the inscriptions "AUSTRALIA 1788-1988" and "FIFTY CENTS", a representation of a sailing ship under sail superimposed on a representation of an historical map of Australia bearing the words 'New Holland', a representation of a compass and a representation of the Southern Cross;"; (e) by omitting from subparagraph (d) (viiiba) "sub-paragraph (viiibb)" and substituting "subparagraph (viiibb) or (viiibc)"; and (f) by inserting after subparagraph (d) (viiibb) the following subparagraphs: "(viiibc) in the case of a coin of the denomination of $1 that refers on its obverse side to the year 1988 as the year of the coin—the inscription "ONE DOLLAR" and a representation of an Australian Aboriginal drawing of a kangaroo superimposed on a representation of abstract Aboriginal art work; (viiibd) in the case of a coin of the denomination of $2—the inscription "2 DOLLARS" and a representation of the head and shoulders of a traditional Australian Aboriginal, a representation of the Southern Cross and a representation of Australian flora; (viiibe) in the case of a coin of the denomination of $5 that refers on its obverse side to the year 1988 as the year of the coin—the inscription "5 DOLLARS" and a representation of the new Parliament House in Canberra in the Australian Capital Territory;".
