European Economic Community (Declaration as an Overseas Organization) Regulations

WHEREAS it is desirable to declare the European Economic Community to be an overseas organization to which the International Organizations (Privileges and Immunities) Act 1963 applies so that, where a person attends an international conference (within the meaning of that Act) convened by an international organization to which that Act applies as a representative of the European Economic Community, that person may have such privileges and immunities as are conferred by that Act or the Regulations under that Act on a person who is in attendance at, or has attended, an international conference convened by that international organization as a representative of an overseas organization to which that Act applies:

NOW THEREFORE I, the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the International Organizations (Privileges and Immunities) Act 1963.

Citation 1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Economic Community (Declaration as an Overseas Organization) Regulations.

Interpretation 2. In these Regulations— "European Economic Community" means the Community established by the treaty known as the Treaty Establishing the European Economic Community signed at Rome on 25 March 1957;

"the Act" means the International Organizations (Privileges and Immunities) Act 1963.

Declaration for purposes of section 5a of the Act 3. For the purposes of section 5a of the Act, the European Economic Community is declared to be an overseas organization to which the Act applies.
