I, WILLIAM PATRICK DEANE, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, make the following regulations under the Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters Act 1987. Dated 17 March 1999.

1 Name of regulations
These regulations are the Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters (Republic of Indonesia) Regulations 1999.
2 Commencement
These regulations commence on 17 July 1999.
3 Definition
In these regulations: Mutual Assistance Treaty means the treaty between the Government of Australia and the Republic of Indonesia on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters, done at Jakarta on 27 October 1995, a copy of the English text of which is set out in Schedule 1.
4 Application of Act
The Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters Act 1987 applies to the Republic of Indonesia subject to the Mutual Assistance Treaty.

Treaty BETWEEN AUSTRALIA AND THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA ON MUTUAL ASSISTANCE IN CRIMINAL MATTERS
AUSTRALIA AND THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA,
DESIRING to extend to each other the widest measure of cooperation to combat crime,
HAVE AGREED as follows:
Article 1 Scope of application
1. The Contracting Parties shall, in accordance with this Treaty, grant to each other assistance in investigations or proceedings in respect of criminal matters.
