Agusta A109 Series Helicopters
AD/A109/31 Main Rotor Blade NDI 13/99
Applicability: Model A109A and 109AII with Main Rotor Blades P/N109-0103-01-(all), excepting -115 blades.
Requirement: Carry out NDI inspections in accordance with Bollettino Technico No.109-111 dated 14 October 1999.
Note: RAI AD No. 99-413 refers.
Compliance: For Part 1 Radiographic, before 30 May 2000 then at intervals no greater than 2 years.
For Part 2 - which is indicated by the results of Part 1; for the specified :
1. Eddy Current inspection, at intervals not exceeding 25 hours time in service, or
b. Liquid Penetrant inspection, at intervals not exceeding 10 hours time in service.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 30 December 1999.
Background: Destructive inspection of life expired MR Blades removed from service revealed corrosion in the area adjacent to the balancing inertia weight (STA 1354 and STA 2825). This Directive prescribes an inspection utilising the radiographic method to determine the serviceability of blades and if necessary a continuing regime of either eddy current or dye penetrant inspections.
