COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA (Civil Aviation Regulations 1998), PART 39 - 105 CIVIL AVIATION SAFETY AUTHORITY
SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES
Boeing 727 Series Aeroplanes
AD/B727/102
Amdt 1
Applicability: All Models.
Bolt Attaching Slat to Slat Track 4/87 DM
Requirement: Retire from service all NAS 1305-43W bolts which attach the wing leading edge slats to the slat tracks. All slats (ie. Nos. 1 to 8) are affected.
Note: Larger (3 inch) diameter bolts installed in accordance 8 with Boeing SB No. 727-57-134 are not affected.
Compliance: Before exceeding 20,000 landings component time in service, or:
for bolts fitted to slats 2, 7, 4 and 5 - within the next 1,000 landings after 20 February
1987; or
for bolts fitted to slats 1, 8, 3 and 6 - at the next "C" check after 20 February 1987; whichever is the later.
Background: Numerous fatigue failures have occurred in the NAS 1305-43W bolt which attach the wing leading edge slats to the slat tracks. All slats are at risk. This amendment increases the retirement life to 20,000 landings for all bolts, based on a more rigorous analysis of the reported defect experience and failure effects. The initial compliance period for high time bolts has been extended where that experience shows this to be permissible.
