COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA (Civil Aviation Safety Regulations 1998), PART 39 - 105 CIVIL AVIATION SAFETY AUTHORITY SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/B737/223 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section. Boeing 737 Series Aeroplanes AD/B737/223 Amdt 1 Door Mounted Escape Slide Latch Block Assembly 6/2004 DM Applicability: Model 737-100, -200, -200C, -300, -400, and –500 series aircraft, as listed in Boeing Special Attention Service Bulletin (SB) 737-25-1434, dated 22 March 2001. Requirement: Replace existing screw, nut, and washers that attach the latch cable assembly to the latch block assembly of the door mounted escape slides, with new, improved parts; in accordance with SB 737-25-1434. When accomplishing SB 737-25-1434, new (unused) self locking nuts, part number BACN10R10L, must be installed. FAA AMOC 150S-03-125 refers. Note: FAA AD 2004-03-34 Amdt 39-13478 refers. Compliance: Within 36 months after 13 May 2004. This Amendment becomes effective on 13 May 2004. Background: The FAA requires accomplishment of the actions specified in this Directive to prevent the latch cable assembly from disconnecting from the latch block assembly of the door mounted escape slide; which, if disconnected, could result in an escape slide not deploying in an emergency situation. This Amendment is issued due to the issue of an FAA Alternative Means of Compliance (AMOC Ref 150S-03-125), which allows only the use of a new (unused) self locking nut to replace the nut removed during the accomplishment of Boeing SB 737-25-1434. The original issue of this AD was to become effective on 13 May 2004.
