COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA (Civil Aviation Regulations 1998), PART 39 - 105 CIVIL AVIATION SAFETY AUTHORITY
SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES
Boeing 747 Series Aeroplanes
AD/B747/100
Amdt 1
Brake Wear Limit 1/93
Applicability: Model 747 series, equipped with brake part number identified in paragraph (a) and (b) of the Requirement Document.
Requirement: Action in accordance with the technical requirements of FAA AD 92-18-12 Amdt 39- 8357.
Compliance: As specified in the requirement document with a revised effective date of 7 January 1993 for Australian Registered Aircraft.
Background: An investigation by the FAA of a runway excursion by a transport category aircraft following a rejected takeoff, has revealed that the majority of brake assemblies were near the current maximum wear limit and unable to absorb the required energy. This Directive required new maximum brake wear limits. Amendment 1 is issued to reflect the requirements of the latest issue of the relevant FAA Directive which requires the inspection for wear, and replacement or rework, of certain additional landing gear brakes that were not listed in the previous AD issue.
