SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES
Boeing 747 Series Aeroplanes
AD/B747/116 Strut Firewall Power Feeder Cable Connectors 3/93
Applicability: Boeing 747-400 series aircraft, fitted with Roll Royce engines, identified in Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 747-24A2190 dated 16 November 1992 and not incorporating Boeing Service Bulletin 747-24-2183 dated 28 January 1993 or QANTAS EO 18597.
Requirement: Inspect and repair if necessary, strut firewall power feeder connectors in accordance with Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 747-24A2190 dated 16 November 1992.
Note: FAA AD 92-27-02 Amdt 39-8435 refers.
Compliance: 1. Unless previously accomplished, initial inspection of the firewall connector is to be completed no later than 4 April 1993 and, if the connector is not replaced, thereafter at intervals not to exceed 800 hours time in service.
2. If the firewall connector is replaced, initial inspection of the replacement connector is required prior to the accumulation of 1200 hours time in service and thereafter at intervals not to exceed 800 hours time in service.
Note: Incorporation of Boeing Service Bulletin 747-24-2183 dated 28 January 1993 is considered terminating action for this Directive.
Background: Three operators have reported damage in 14 strut firewall power feeder connectors on 767/747-400 Rolls Royce engine equipped aircraft. Accomplishment of this Directive will prevent both the possible loss of generator power due to deterioration of the strut firewall feeder connector and possible fires in the engine strut caused by ignition of fuel or fuel vapours from an overheated connector.
