AD/B747/162 Overhead Stowage Bin 7/96
Applicability: Model 747-100, -200, and -300 series aircraft, as listed in Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 747-25A3095 Revision 1.
Requirement: Perform a visual inspection to determine if hinge bolts and nuts are installed in the overhead bins, in accordance with either Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 747-25A3095, or 747-25A3095 Revision 1.
(a) If the hinge bolts and nuts are installed, no further action is required by this AD.
(b) If any hinge bolt or nut is not installed, install a hinge bolt and nut in accordance with either of the above mentioned bulletins.

Compliance: Unless already accomplished, before 20 September 1996.
Background: The FAA received reports that overhead bins in the passenger compartment have fallen out of position due to missing hinge bolts. Missing hinge bolts could result in the overhead bins falling out of position and injuring aircraft occupants.
