Boeing 747 Series Aeroplanes
AD/B747/185 Main Fuel Tank Boost Pump Wiring Teflon Sleeving
Applicability: All Model 747 aircraft line positions 0001 to 1145 inclusive. Requirement: 1. Unless previously accomplished in accordance with AD/B747/171 (any

amendment) perform a one-time visual inspection to confirm installation of Teflon sleeves over the electrical wires to the boost pumps installed inside the conduits in the numbers 1 and 4 main fuel tanks in accordance with Boeing Message M-7200- 98-01080, dated 18 March 1998.
2. If any Teflon sleeve is found to be missing during the inspection required by Requirement 1 of this AD inspect to detect damage to the wires in accordance with Boeing Message M-7200-98-01080.
1. If damage is not found, install a Teflon sleeve in accordance with Boeing Message M-7200-98-01080.
3. If any damaged wiring is found, inspect the conduits in accordance with Boeing Message M-7200-98-01080.
1. If conduit damage is not found, replace any damaged wiring and install a Teflon sleeve in accordance with Boeing Message M-7200-98-01080.
b. If any conduit damage is found, replace any damaged wiring and the conduit ensuring that a Teflon sleeve is installed, in accordance with Boeing Message M-7200-98-01080.
Note: FAA AD 98-10-10 Amdt 39-10522 refers.
Compliance: 1. Within 60 days of the effective date of this AD.

3. Before next flight following the Requirement 1 inspection. This airworthiness directive becomes effective on 22 July 1998.
Background This AD requires a one-time inspection to confirm the installation of Teflon sleeves over certain electrical wires inside conduits installed in the fuel tanks, and corrective actions if found necessary. This action is prompted by a report of missing Teflon sleeves which protect the wiring insulation from chaffing. Requirements of this AD were considered to be covered by AD/B747/171 Amdt 3, but have been separated for clarity and to align with the FAA ADs.
