COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA (Civil Aviation Regulations 1998), PART 39 - 105 CIVIL AVIATION SAFETY AUTHORITY SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES Boeing 747 Series Aeroplanes AD/B747/189 Body Station 2598 Bulkhead Inner Chord 11/98 Applicability: Model 747 series aircraft having line positions 1 through 1157. Requirement: Inspect in accordance with the technical requirements of FAA AD 98-16-13 Amdt 39- 10689. Note: Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 747-53A2423 refers. Compliance: As specified in the Requirement document with a revised effective date of 8 October 1998. This airworthiness directive becomes effective on 8 October 1998. Background: The FAA received a report that fasteners were missing from the splice fitting of the forward inner chord of the Body Station 2598 bulkhead. The actions specified in this Directive are intended to prevent accelerated fatigue cracking of the inner chords, which could result in inability of the structure to carry horizontal stabiliser flight loads.
