COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA (Civil Aviation Regulations 1998), PART 39 - 105 CIVIL AVIATION SAFETY AUTHORITY SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES
Boeing 747 Series Aeroplanes
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
AD/B747/219 Lateral Control System Cable Guards 2/2000 Applicability: Model 747 series aircraft, as listed in Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 747-27A2364. Requirement: Action in accordance with the technical requirements of FAA AD 99-24-16 Amdt 39- 11441.
Compliance: Before 4 January 2002, unless already accomplished.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 24 February 2000.
Background: The FAA received reports of high control wheel forces and restricted control wheel movement in the lateral control system of a Boeing 747 aircraft. Investigation revealed deterioration and splintering of the lateral control system cable guard material into the cable pulley covers in the cabin sidewall area, which resulted in a hard jam in the control system. This Directive requires replacement of the affected cable guards with new, improved cable guards.
Eugene Paul Holzapfel Delegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority 18 January 2000
