SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES
Boeing 747 Series Aeroplanes
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Applicability: Model 747-100 and -200 series airplanes modified by United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) SA8622SW.
Requirement: 1. Deactivate the in-flight entertainment (IFE) system, in accordance with Continental Airlines Engineering Change/Repair Authorization 2330-02321, 2330-02322, 2330-02323, 2330-02324, 2330-02325, 2330-02326, 2330-02327 or
2330-02328; all dated 29 August 2000; as applicable.
2. IFE systems may not be installed on any aeroplane in accordance with STC SA8622SW.
Note: FAA AD 2001-14-11 Amdt 39-12322 refers.
Compliance: For Requirement 1 - Within 18 months after the effective date of this Directive.
For Requirement 2 - As of the effective date of this Directive.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 6 September 2001.
Background: This Directive requires the deactivation of IFE systems installed by STC SA8622SW. This action is necessary to ensure that the flight crew is able to remove electrical power from the IFE system when necessary. Inability to remove power from the IFE system during a non-normal or emergency situation could result in inability to control smoke or fumes in the airplane flight deck or cabin.
