Boeing 747 Series Aeroplanes
AD/B747/287 Drip Shield and Supports above Rudder Pedal
Mechanism
3/2003
Applicability: Model 747-400 and -400D series aircraft, as listed in Boeing Service Bulletin 747-25A3271 Revision 1 dated 19 December 2001.
Requirement: Action in accordance with the technical requirements of FAA AD 2003-02-02 Amdt 39-13018.
Compliance: As specified in the Requirement document for the initial and repetitive inspections, with a revised effective date of 20 March 2003.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 20 March 2003.
Background: This Directive requires inspections to detect discrepancies of the drip shield and supports located above the rudder pedals. The inspections and eventual terminating action specified by this Directive are intended to prevent unrestrained drip shields from interfering with the rudder pedal mechanism, which could result in reduced controllability of the aircraft.
David Alan Villiers
Delegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority 7 February 2003
The above AD is notified in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette on 26 February 2003.
