The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Boeing 747 Series Aeroplanes
AD/B747/71 Amdt 1
Cavity Aft of Wing Centre Section 10/2003
Applicability: All Model 747 series aircraft.
Requirement: Action in accordance with the technical requirements of FAA AD 2003-11-01 Amdt 39-13160.
Note: Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 747-51A2057 refers.
Compliance: As specified in the Requirement document, with a revised effective date of 2 October 2003.
This Amendment becomes effective on 2 October 2003.
Background: Debris and foreign material may block drainage of the cavity aft of the wing centre section and result in accumulated water leakage onto the lateral flight control cables and/or components and freezing; which could restrict or jam control cable movement and result in loss of controllability of the aircraft.
Amendment 1 is issued in response to a new FAA AD, which adds new repetitive tests and inspections for discrepancies of the drainage system of the canted pressure deck.
