AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section. Boeing 767 Series Aeroplanes AD/B767/181 Passenger Entertainment System FAA STC ST01869AT-D 3/2003 Applicability: Model 767-300 series aeroplanes modified by United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) ST01869AT-D. Requirement: 1. Modify the Passenger Entertainment System (PES) in accordance with TIMCO Service Bulletin TSB-767-23-005, Revision J dated 29 August 2001; as revised by TIMCO Engineering Change Orders TSB-767-23-005, Revision J, K1 dated 10 September 2001, Revision J, K2 dated 18 September 2001 and Revision J, K3 dated 28 September 2001. 2. Revise the procedures under "Electrical Smoke or Fire" in the "Emergency Procedures" section of the Aircraft Flight Manual (AFM) to include TIMCO Airplane Flight Manual Supplement for Boeing B767-300, TIM-AFM-01034, Revision A, dated 12 October 2001. When the information in that AFM supplement has been incorporated into the general revisions of the AFM, the general revisions may be incorporated into the AFM, and the TIMCO AFM supplement may be removed from the AFM. 3. A PES may not be installed on any aeroplane in accordance with STC ST01869AT-D, unless the PES is modified and the AFM is revised in accordance with this Directive. Note: FAA AD 2002-26-14 Amdt 39-13002 refers. Compliance: For Requirement 1 - Within 18 months after the effective date of this Directive. For Requirement 2 - Before further flight after accomplishing Requirement 1. For Requirement 3 - As of the effective date of this Directive. This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 20 March 2003. Boeing 767 Series Aeroplanes AD/B767/181 (Continued) Background: This Directive requires the modification of the PES installed under STC ST01869AT- D, together with the revision of the AFM. This action is required to ensure that, when necessary, the flight crew is able to remove power from the PES and is advised of appropriate procedures to perform these actions. Inability to remove power from the PES during a non-normal or emergency situation could result in inability to control smoke or fumes in the aeroplane flight deck or cabin.
