Hot Air Balloons
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
AD/BAL/21 Liquid Fire & Pilot Light Valve Stem Replacement 8/2000
Applicability: Cameron Balloons Ltd (Sky Balloons) Mk 1 and Mk 2 (Mistral) burner.
Requirement: Replace the valve stems in the main blast liquid fire and pilot light valves in accordance with Cameron Balloons Ltd. Service bulletin SB10 Issue A dated 12/5/2000.
Note: UK CAA AD 003-05-2000 refers.
Compliance: Unless already accomplished, within 20 flight hours or 12 months time in service from the effective date of this Directive, whichever occurs first.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 10 August 2000.
Background: Failure of the stem/seat pinned joint will cause a leak from the underside of the burner unit. This Directive is raised to prevent a serious external fuel leak occurring.
Eugene Paul Holzapfel Delegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority 30 June 2000
The above AD is notified in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette on 12 July 2000.
