AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Beechcraft 1900 Series Aeroplanes

AD/BEECH 1900/34 KLN-90B GPS 4/2001

Applicability: Beech Model 1900D aeroplanes, serial numbers UE-156 through UE-299, that are equipped with a KLN-90B Global Positioning System (GPS) installed in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) SA00245WI-D.

Requirement: Rewire the KLN-90B GPS in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions section of Raytheon Mandatory Service Bulletin SB 34-3222, issued January 2000.

Note: FAA AD 2001-04-05 Amdt 39-12123 refers.

Compliance: Within the next 400 hours time-in-service after the effective date of this Directive.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 19 April 2001.

Background: The FAA received a report of inconsistent NAV "FLAG" displays on a KLN-90B GPS installed on a Beech 1900D aeroplane in accordance with STC SA00245WI-D. The copilot had the KLN-90B GPS selected as the NAV source and the pilot did not have a valid NAV source selected. This caused the flight director command bar to disappear from the copilot's electronic attitude director indicator (EADI), and the copilot received an inconsistent NAV "FLAG".
