AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Pilatus Britten-Norman BN-2 Series Aeroplanes
AD/BN-2/78 Control Rod to Elevator Trim Tab Lever B olt Retainer
7/2003 DM
Applicability: All BN2, BN2A, BN2B, and BN2T series Islander aircraft.
Requirement: Action in accordance with B-N Group Mandatory Service Bulletin SB 292, dated 1 May 2003.
Compliance: At the next daily check after 4 June 2003, and thereafter at any time the affected control rod is disconnected.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 4 June 2003.
Background: The manufacturer has determined that the retainer NB-03-5229, installed at the connection of the drive rod elevator trim tab lever may have been installed incorrectly, where the retainer is installed under the bolt head and not on the inner face of the drive lever. If the retainer is installed in this way it will not prevent the bolt from disconnecting.
David Villiers Delegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority 29 May 2003
