COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA (Civil Aviation Regulations 1998), PART 39 - 105 CIVIL AVIATION SAFETY AUTHORITY SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES
Piper PA-32 (Cherokee Six) Series Aeroplanes
AD/PA-32/19 Amdt 3
Stabilator Balance Weight Tube Assembly 11/94
Applicability: Model PA-32-260, with serial numbers 32-01 and subsequent, and Model PA-32-300, -300S, with serial numbers 32-40000 and subsequent, without tube assembly part number 69624-02V installed.
Requirement: 1. Using a magnetic particle or dye penetrant method, inspect the stabilator balance weight tube assembly for cracking in the vicinity of the control cable lugs and the tube attachment bolt holes.
Note: A magnetic particle inspection method must be used where mechanical means or sand blasting has been used to remove surface protective treatment.
2. Visually inspect the stabilator/tube mounting fittings P/N 63567-03 (2 off) for wear, cracking and loose rivets.
3. Inspect the stabilator mounting points for possible stabilator side movement.
If side movement is evident, install a combination of AN960-416L and AN960- 416 washers as necessary to centre the stabilator assembly and eliminate any side movement.
Note: Piper SB 327 refers.
Compliance: At intervals not to exceed 200 hours time in service.
The compliance of the previous issue of this Directive remains unchanged, which was the repetitive inspection called up in the 12 January 1971 issue. This amendment is effective 13 October 1994.
Background: The manufacturer required an inspection of the stabilator balance weight tube assembly, in response to field reports of cracking.
Amendment 3 is issued to confine the applicability of this Directive to the aircraft specified in Piper SB 327. Additionally, the previous issue of this Directive should have been at "B" amendment status (Amdt 2).
