Federal Register of Legislation
COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA (Civil Aviation Regulations 1998), PART 39 - 105 CIVIL AVIATION SAFETY AUTHORITY SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES
Piper PA-34 (Seneca) Series Aeroplanes
AD/PA-34/45 Amdt 1
Applicability: All models.
Wing and Airframe Retirement Lives 6/95
Requirement: 1. Retire the wing main spar, wing main spar carry-through structure, and wing main spar attachment bolts as follows:
For the PA-34-200 series, before 13 000 hours time in service or 13 000 flights, whichever occurs first;
For the PA-34-200T series, before 14 500 hours time in service or 14 500 flights, whichever occurs first;
For the PA-34-220T series, before 12 300 hours time in service or 12 300 flights, whichever occurs first.
2. Retire the remainder of the airframe, for all models, before 24 400 hours time in service or 24 400 flights, whichever occurs first.
Note: Where a period of the aircraft's history is unknown, or where a longer average flight time cannot be justified, it must be assumed that the average flight time for the period is 39 minutes (0.65 hours).
Compliance: The compliance of the original AD remains unchanged; Retire affected components upon reaching their safe lives or 5 April 1995, whichever occurs last.
This amendment is effective 25 May 1995.
Background: The manufacturer has submitted a fatigue substantiation for the safe life of the wing and associated structure. Pending substantiation of a longer safe life for the remainder of the aircraft structure a life corresponding to twice the PA-34-220T wing life has been promulgated. Amendment 1 has been raised to add a note addressing unknown periods of aircraft history and clarifies the components to be retired.
