COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA (Civil Aviation Safety Regulations 1998), PART 39 - 105 CIVIL AVIATION SAFETY AUTHORITY
SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Pilatus PC-12 Series Aeroplanes
AD/PC-12/40 Flap Flexible Shafts. 5/2004
Applicability: All PC-12 and PC-2/45 aircraft, MSN 101 through MSN 489, with inboard and/or outboard flap flexible shafts (flexshafts) part numbers 945.02.02.203 and 945.02.02.204 installed.
Requirement: Remove flap flexshafts part numbers 945.02.02.203 and 945.02.02.204 and install new flap flexshafts part numbers 945.02.02.205 and 945.02.02 206; in accordance with Pilatus PC-12 Service Bulletin No. 27-015 Revision A, dated 13 November 2003.
Note: Switzerland FOCA AD HB-2004-068 refers.
Compliance: At the next 100 Hour/Annual Inspection after 13 May 2004, but not later than 13 June 2004; unless already accomplished.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 13 May 2004.
Background: The Manufacturer received several reports of corroded inner drive cables of the flap flexshafts. Investigation revealed that moisture from the pressurised cabin can enter the flap flexshafts at the attachments of the actuators. This condition, if not corrected, could lead to rupture of the flap flexshafts and consequent inoperative flap system.
This Directive introduces flap flexshafts with improved sealing.

Delegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority 2 April 2004
The above AD is notified in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette on 21 April 2004.
