AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/PW4000/12 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

HPC Front Drum Rotor - Inspection 10/2002
Applicability: Pratt and Whitney PW4000 engines as specified by models in FAA AD 2002-12-15.
Requirement: Carry out the initial inspection and repetitive inspections in accordance with the requirements of FAA AD 2002-12-15.
Note: FAA AD 2002-12-15, Amdt 39-12787 refers which supersedes FAA AD 2001- 20-13 Amdt 39-12461.
Compliance: Unless already accomplished, as detailed in the requirement document with a revised effective date of 3 October 2002.
This Amend ment becomes effective on 3 October 2002.
Background: FAA reports 11 instances of cracking of the HPC drum rotors that could result in uncontained failures. This AD introduces an inspection regime that can detect the cracking before failure.
Original issue of this AD was based on FAA AD 2001-20-13 and became effective on 11 July 2002.
