Background: Several operators have reported random instances of erroneous DME indications, the affected units failing to process and update distance outputs. Additionally, some units have been reported as establishing a continuous restart mode upon application of power. These conditions are known colloquially as `sleeping' or `deaf' modes of operation. Compliance with this Directive will effectively prevent units from displaying these characteristics.
