COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA (Civil Aviation Safety Regulations 1998), 106 CIVIL AVIATION SAFETY AUTHORITY SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Rotax Piston Engines
AD/ROTAX/10 Crack Inspection 11/2001
Applicability: Rotax 914 F series engines. Requirement: Inspect the following: 1. Crankcase in accordance with Rotax Service Bulletin SB-914-018; and
2. Engine suspension frame in accordance with Rotax Service Bulletin SB-914-016; and
3. The exhaust bend in accordance with Rotax Service Bulletin SB-914-017.
Note: Austrian AD No. 103 refers.
Compliance: Unless previously accomplished, within 10 hours time in service and thereafter, for Requirements 1 and 2, at intervals not to exceed 110 hours, and for Requirement 3, at intervals not to exceed 55 hours.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 1 November 2001.
Background: This Directive has been issued to require inspection of certain engine parts for cracks. The requirement follows reports of cracks found in Rotax 914F powered Diamond HK36 sailplanes. The defects are not considered to be limited to Diamond aircraft.
