COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA (Civil Aviation Regulations 1998), PART 39 - 106 CIVIL AVIATION SAFETY AUTHORITY SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section. Rotax Piston Engines AD/ROTAX/11 Fuel Pump Replacement 4/2002 Applicability: Rotax 912A, 912F and 912S series engines detailed by serial number in Rotax Service Bulletin SB-912-031 and incorporating a Rotax fuel pump assembly part number (P/N) 996 596. Requirement: In accordance with instructions detailed in Rotax Service Bulletin SB-912-031, carry out: 1. An inspection of the fuel pump assembly for cracks; and 2. a leak check of the fuel pump assembly; and if in complying with Items 1 or 2, the fuel pump or associated plumbing has been disturbed, carry out an engine test run. Note: Austrian AD 109 refers. Compliance: Within 10 hours time in service from when this Directive is effective and thereafter at intervals not to exceed 110 hours time in service. This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 18 April 2002. Background: This Directive has been issued to address reports of fuel leaks at the Rotax supplied fuel pump and fuel pump hose connections. Fuel leaks may result in an engine fire.
