COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA (Civil Aviation Regulations 1998), PART 39 - 106 CIVIL AVIATION SAFETY AUTHORITY SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES Rotax Piston Engines AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section. AD/ROTAX/8 Ignition Unit Stator Assembly 5/2000 TX Applicability: Rotax 912 and 914 series engines as follows: Engine Series Serial Number Range 912 A 3 792.541 up to 4 410.366 912 F 4 412.502 up to 4 412.791 914 F 4 420.002 up to 4 420.157 Requirement: 1. Inspect the ignition stator assembly and if necessary repair any discrepancies detected during the inspection, in accordance with Section 3.1 of Rotax Aircraft Service Bulletin SB-912-026 Revision 3 or SB-914-014 Revision 3 both dated December 1999, as appropriate. 2. Replace the stator assembly in accordance with Section 3.2 of SB-912-026 Revision 3 or SB-914-014 Revision 3, as appropriate. Replacement of the stator assembly in accordance with previous issues of the service bulletins is considered terminating action for this directive. Note: Austro Control (Austria) AD No 98 refers. For Requirement 2 - Before the next 100 hour inspection or by 15 May 2000, whichever occurs earlier. This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 7 April 2000. Background: Austro Control has advised that damage to stator ignition cable insulation has been reported and that this damage could cause an electrical short circuit resulting in engine stoppage. This Directive requires an initial inspection of the stator assembly to detect any damage and replacement of the stator assembly as terminating action.
