SAAB SF340 Series Aeroplanes
AD/SF340/35 Refuel/Defuel Panel Lighting 7/92
Applicability: Model SF 340A serial number 004 to 159 and model SF 340B serial number 160 and up, equipped with lighted front panel P/N 7239160-813 on refuel/defuel panel assembly P/N 7239160-502, -503 and -504.
Requirement: Disconnect the lighting to the refuel/defuel panel lights as follows:
1. Remove the refuel/defuel panel assembly in accordance with the Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM) 28-21-05.
2. With the refuel/defuel panel removed, loosen the four screws securing the lighting panel to the front and remove the rear cover.
3. Locate the lighting panel Jack 30 QA under the rear cover and remove the screw securing the wire QA636-20. Remove the wire from Jack 30 QA and reinstall the screw.
4. Cap and stow the wire QA636-20 and reassemble the refuel/defuel panel.
5. Placard the lighting panel with `Lights Inop`.
6. Reinstall and test the refuel/defuel panel in accordance with AMM 28-21-05.

Compliance: Prior to 25 July 1992.
Background: Reports have been received that arcing and smoke has been observed in the vicinity of the fuel/defuel panel. This Directive requires action to preclude the possibility of a fire during refuelling, when residual fuel or vapours in the nozzle or receptacle could be ignited if splashed or blown towards the panel, by requiring that the lighting electrical supply be disconnected.
