Engine Air Intake - Modification of Detachable Centre Inlet

Applicability: SAAB 340A series aircraft, serial number 004 through 159 (inclusive), and SAAB 340B series aircraft serial number 160 through 219 (inclusive) and 402 through 436 (inclusive), equipped with Aerospace Composite Technologies (ACT) Engine Air Intakes.
Requirement: Modify the detachable centre inlet of the engine air intake in accordance with SAAB AB Service Bulletin SAAB 340-30-073 dated 18 August 1997.
Note: SAD N0. 1-119R1 dated 08 October 1998 refers.
Compliance: Within two years of the effective date of the original issue of this Directive.
This amendment becomes effective on 3 December 1998.
Background: The design and manufacturing of the detachable centre inlet of the engine air intake produces two apertures at the rear of the component. These holes must be closed to comply with fire resistance design regulations.
This amendment increases the applicability of this Directive.
The original issue of this Airworthiness Directive became effective on 4 December 1997.
