The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
SAAB SF340 Series Aeroplanes
AD/SF340/94 Aileron and Elevator Trim Tab Fittings 13/2003
Applicability: Model SF340A aircraft, serial numbers 004 through 159.
Model 340B aircraft, serial numbers 160 through 459.
Requirement: Action in accordance with SAAB Service Bulletin 340-51-025.
Note: LFV AD 1-194 refers.
Compliance: Within 800 flight hours or 6 months after 25 December 2003, whichever occurs first.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 25 December 2003.
Background: The manufacturer received reports of incorrect installation of rivets holding the retainers for the elevator trim tab bearings. This condition could result in the trim tab bearings coming loose, which could lead to excessive play in the trim tab system with consequent severe oscillations affecting control. The aileron system has a similar design.
David Villiers
Delegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority 12 November 2003
The above AD is notified in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette on 3 December 2003.
