AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Eurocopter AS 332 (Super Puma) Series Helicopters

Applicability: AS 332 helicopters, versions C, C1, L and L1, equipped with Turbomeca Makila 1A or 1A1 engines with electronic control units (ECU) post TU 219 or TU 190 or
TU 202.
Requirement: 1. Ensure that the "POWER" indicator light check procedures, specified in paragraph 2.B.1 of Eurocopter Alert Telex 05.00.59 R2, are in the Aircraft Flight Manual (AFM).
2. Perform the "POWER" indicator light check procedures specified in paragraph
2.B.1 of Alert Telex 05.00.59 R2.
3. If the "POWER" indicator light fails either the pre flight or a Requirement 2 check procedure, check and adjust the anticipator potentiometer in accordance with the instructions in paragraph 2.B.2 of the Alert Telex.
4. If the anticipator potentiometer has not been checked and adjusted in accordance with Requirement 3, check and adjust the anticipator potentiometer in accordance with the instructions in paragraph 2.B.2 of the Alert Telex.

Compliance: For Requirement 1 - Before the next flight after the effective date of this Directive.
For Requirement 2 -
1. On replacement of an ECU pre-MOD TU 190 or TU 202 or TU 219 with an ECU post-MOD TU 190 or TU 202 or TU 219,
b. Each time the anticipator potentiometer is replaced,
c. Each time the AP hydraulic unit is replaced, and
d. Each time the linkage between the AP hydraulic unit and the anticipator potentiometer is adjusted.

For Requirement 3 - Before the next flight after the "POWER" indicator light check fails.
For Requirement 4 - Within the next 150 hours time in service or 2 months. whichever occurs first, after the initial performance of the "POWER" indicator light check.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 26 November 2003.
Background: The Direction Générale de l'Aviation Civile of France advised that incorrect adjustment of the anticipator potentiometer could result in engines changing to minimum rating in flight. This Directive is issued to ensure that potentiometers are correctly adjusted.
