Elevator Return Spring And Attachment 8/93
Applicability: Model Serial Numbers
SA226-AT all serial numbers
SA226-TC all serial numbers
SA227-AC 406,415,416, and 420 through 473
SA227-AT 423 through 469
Requirement: 1. Visually inspect the elevator return spring, the attachment bolts, the spacers, and the clevis for damage such as deterioration, wear, or breakage. If any damaged part is found, prior to further flight, replace with a new part and relocate the elevator return spring in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions section of Fairchild SB 226-27-032 or Fairchild SB 227-27-002, as applicable.
2. Relocate the elevator return spring in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions section of Fairchild SB 226-27-032 or Fairchild SB 227-27-002, as applicable.

Compliance: 1. Within 25 hours time in service after 22 July 1993, unless already accomplished within the last 275 hours time in service; and thereafter at intervals not to exceed 300 hours time in service, until modified in accordance with Requirement 2 of this Directive.
2. Unless already accomplished, within 2,200 hours time in service after 22 July 1993.
Background: The elevator return spring and attachment bolts are prone to rapid wear during normal service. Amendment 1 reduced the inspection intervals, provided for terminating action, and extended applicability.
Amendment 2 is issued in response to the referenced FAA AD which requires terminating modification action in lieu of ongoing repetitive inspections.
