COMMONW EALTH OF AUSTRALIA (Civil Aviation Regulations 1998), PART 39 - 105 CIVIL AVIATION SAFETY AUTHORITY SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section. Fairchild (Swearingen) SA226 and SA227 Series Aeroplanes AD/SWSA226/92 Brake Master Cylinders 9/2002 Applicability: SA226-AT, all serial numbers, SA226-T all serial numbers, SA226-T(B) all serial numbers, SA226-TC all serial numbers, SA227-AC, SA227-AT, and SA227-TT serial number 420 through 583 inclusive. Requirement: Replace the Skidmore Wilhelm Manufacturing Co. Model V1-15-1000 brake master cylinders with new or overhauled Model V1-15-1000 brake master cylinders, which have been overhauled to the requirements in Fairchild Service Bulletin 226-32-069 for SA226 aircraft, or Fairchild Service Bulletin 227-32-045 for SA227 aircraft. Note: FAA AD 2002-08-01 refers. Compliance: Unless previously accomplished; within 200 hours aircraft time in service after the effective date of this directive, or 15,000 hours brake master cylinder time in service, whichever comes later. Thereafter at intervals not to exceed 15,000 hours time brake master cylinder in service. This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 5 September 2002. Background: Malfunctioning of the brake master cylinders can cause dragging brakes, which could overheat the brakes and lead to wheel well fire. Replacement with modified brake master cylinders is intended to overcome this problem.
