Federal Register of Legislation
COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA (Civil Aviation Regulations 1998), PART 39 - 105 CIVIL AVIATION SAFETY AUTHORITY SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES
Cessna 340 Series Aeroplanes
AD/CESSNA 340/31 Amdt 1
Main Landing Gear Wheel Bay Wing Rib and Wing Skin
10/95
Applicability: Cessna 340 aircraft Serial Numbers 340-0001 to 340A0002.
Requirement: Inspect the main landing gear side brace upper support attach bolts for correct torque. Clean and do a close visual inspection of the main landing gear wheel well ribs in accordance with Cessna Service Letter (SL) ME76-2.
Visually inspect the wing upper surface skin in the overwing baggage locker for cracking. Pay particular attention to the inboard side of the locker.
Compliance: Initially inspect before 100 hours time in service after 20 July 1995 or before further flight after 14 September 1995.
Re-inspect at intervals not to exceed 100 hours time in service.
Installation of Cessna Service Kit SK414-8E or repair to a scheme acceptable to the Authority cancels the Requirement of this Directive.
This Amendment is effective from 14 September 1995.
Background: There have been five reports of cracking of main landing gear wheel well ribs on Australian registered aircraft. In a number of cases cracks have also been reported in the wing upper surface skin in the baggage locker. Extensive cracking of the wing ribs could result in collapse of the main landing gear.
This Amendment adds repairs acceptable to the Authority as suitable terminating action.
