Applicability: CF6-80A Series.
Requirement: Install fire shields in accordance with the requirements of FAA AD 89-16-08 Paras (a) and (b) unless already accomplished. Compliance: Prior to 27 October 1989. Background: The FAA advises of one event involving a CF6-80A engine where an external fire resulted from failure of a number 5R bearing. The fire progressed into the accessory compartment damaging fuel carrying lines causing fuel leakage which sustained the fire.
