AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/CIRRUS/2 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Aircraft Parachute System 3/2003
Applicability: Model SR20 aircraft, serial numbers 1005 through 1195. Model SR22 aircraft, serial numbers 0002 through 0209.
Requirement: Modify the Cirrus Airplane Parachute System (CAPS) by replacing the CAPS handle access cover, the activation handle bracket, and the activation cable, with parts of improved design in accordance with the following service information, as applicable:
1. Cirrus Service Bulletin SB 20-95-03 Issued June 10, 2002; SB 20-95-04 Issued July 10, 2002; SB 20-95-05, Issued July 10, 2002, or SB 20-95-05 Revision 1, dated August 14 2002.
2. Cirrus Service Bulletin SB 22-95-03 Issued June 10, 2002; SB 22-95-04, Issued July 10, 2002; SB 22-95-05, Issued July 10, 2002, or SB 22-95-05 Revision 1, dated August 14 2002.

Compliance: Within 90 days after 20 March 2003, unless already accomplished.
This Amendment becomes effective on 20 March 2003.
Background: The FAA received a report from the type certificate holder that a condition exists that could cause the Cirrus Aircraft Parachute System (CAPS), installed on certain Model SR20 and SR22 aircraft, not to activate in the event of an emergency.

Amendment 1 is issued in response to a new FAA AD, which requires modification of the CAPS activation system with parts of improved design. This action is intended to prevent failure of the CAPS activation system in an emergency situation.
The original issue of this Airworthiness Directive became effective on 27 March 2002.
