Bombardier (Canadair) CL-600 (Challenger) Series Aeroplanes
AD/CL-600/23 Amdt 1

Applicability: Model CL-600-1A11, serial numbers 1004 through 1066, and 1068 through 1085; and Model CL-600-2A12, serial numbers 3001 through 3050.
Requirement: To reduce the possibility of frozen brakes, install inboard wheel discs, water shields, water deflectors and, for CL-600-2A12 aircraft, trailing arm sealing caps:
For CL-600-1A11 aircraft:
Action in accordance with Canadair Service Bulletin (SB) 600-0369 Revision 3.
For CL-600-2A12 aircraft:
Action in accordance with Canadair SB 601-0024 Revision 2.
It is permissible to remove the inboard and/or outboard wheel discs, provided the aircraft does not take off from a wet runway where the ambient temperature is below 10 degrees C. The Aircraft Flight Manual Limitations section (Configuration Deviation List) refers. Removal and reinstallation of discs shall be done in accordance with the following:
For CL-600-1A11 aircraft:
Canadair Drawing K600-85022, or SB 600-0662.
For CL-600-2A12 aircraft:
Canadair Drawing K600-85022, or SB 601-0467.
Note: Transport Canada AD CF-84-04R2 refers.
Compliance: Unless already accomplished, within 300 hours time in service after 5 November 1998.
This Amendment becomes effective on 5 November 1998.
Background: Tyre burst on landing occurred on a number of aircraft when operating from contaminated surfaces.
Amendment 1 is issued in response to a revision of the related Transport Canada AD, which introduces disc removal and reinstallation requirement documents.
