AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/CL-600/38 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

IDG Cables and Firewall Separator 4/2001
Applicability: Model CL-600-2B19 "Regional Jet" aircraft, serial numbers 7003 through 7269 inclusive.
Requirement: 1. For aeroplanes that have not been inspected or modified in accordance with the original issue of Bombardier Alert Service Bulletin (ASB) A601R-24-091 dated 9 March 2000 or Revision A dated 10 May 2000 - Visually inspect the Integrated Drive Generator (IDG) cables and the fire wall separators of the pylon for chafing and damage in accordance with Section 2, Accomplishment Instructions, of Bombardier ASB A601R-24-091 Revision B dated 14 September 2000. Depending on the results of the inspection accomplish the following:
1. If chafing or damage of the cables is not detected, install conduits Part Number (P/N) S1244H-6 over the IDG cables, install IDG cable clamp P/N TA121010R14-04, and install Teflon strips (P/Ns 601R37138-21/S and 601R37138-23/S on the left and right fire wall separator at FS661.35 and FS666.10 in accordance with the ASB.
b. If an IDG cable jacket is found to be damaged, but the inner core is not visible or damaged, repair the damaged IDG cable in accordance with the ASB. Upon completing the repair, carry out the modifications detailed in Requirement 1.a.
c. If an IDG cable jacket is found to be damaged, and the inner core is visible but not damaged, install a temporary repair on the damaged IDG cable in accordance with the ASB. After completing the repair, carry out the modifications detailed in Requirement 1.a.
d. If the inner core of any IDG cable is found to be damaged such that one or more conductor strands are broken or damaged, replace the damaged IDG cables and damaged separators in accordance with the ASB. In conjunction with the repair, carry out the modifications detailed in Requirement 1.a.

2. Replace any damaged IDG cables with a temporary repair incorporated in accordance with Requirement 1.d.
3. For aeroplanes that have previously been inspected and have either incorporated repairs and/or modifications in accordance with the original issue of ASB A601R-24-091 dated 9 March 2000 or Revision A dated 10 May 2000 - Inspect, and if necessary, replace the IDG cable clamps on the left hand (LH) and right hand (RH) pylons with clamp P/N TA121010R14-04 in accordance with Section 2, Accomplishment Instructions, Part E of Bombardier ASB

Compliance: For Requirement 1 - Within 60 days or 550 hours time in service (TIS) after the effective date of this Amendment, whichever occurs first.
For Requirement 1.a. - Before further flight. For Requirement 1.b. - Before further flight. For Requirement 1.c. - Before further flight. For Requirement 1.d. - Before further flight.
For Requirement 2 - By the next 'C' check or within 4000 hours TIS after the date of repair, whichever occurs first.
For Requirement 3 - Within 60 days or 550 hours TIS after the effective date of this Amendment, whichever occurs first.
This Amendment becomes effective on 19 April 2001.
Background: Transport Canada has received a number of reports of chafing of the IDG cables on the firewall separators. This condition, if not corrected, could result in the in-flight loss of electrical power and/or loss of firewall separator integrity.

This amendment has been issued to ensure that only IDG cable clamp P/N TA121010R14-04 has been installed on both LH and RH pylons.
The original issue of this Airworthiness Directive became effective on 5 October 2000.
