The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Bombardier (Canadair) CL-600 (Challenger) Series Aeroplanes
AD/CL-600/50 Main Fuel Tank Vent System Modification 5/2002
Applicability: CL-600-2B19 "Regional Jet" aeroplanes serial numbers 7003 to 7067 and 7069 to 7109.
Requirement: Modify the main fuel tank fuel vent tubing in accordance with Bombardier Service Bulletin 601R-28-024, Revision A dated 11 November 1998.
Note: Transport Canada AD CF-2001-31 refers.
Compliance: Before further flight after the effective date of this Airworthiness Directive.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 16 May 2002.
Background: During refuelling, ground or flight manoeuvres, fuel trapped in the main tank vent line system may spill from the NACA scoops, run along the lower wing skin, accumulate in the dry bay and possibly drip onto the main landing gear and brakes. This Airworthiness Directive therefore requires modification of the fuel vent system to prevent the possibility of a fire occurring.
