COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA (Civil Aviation Regulations 1998), PART 39 - 105 CIVIL AVIATION SAFETY AUTHORITY SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section. Bombardier (Canadair) CL-600 (Challenger) Series Aeroplanes AD/CL-600/60 Flap Vane Brackets 13/2002 DM Applicability: Model CL-600-2B16 aircraft, serial numbers 5301 through 5499. Requirement: Action in accordance with the requirements of Transport Canada AD CF-2002-37. Note: Bombardier Alert Service Bulletin ASB A604-27-007 Revision 1 refers. Compliance: As specified in the Requirement document, with a revised effective date of 30 October 2002. This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 30 October 2002. Background: The aircraft assembly procedures used when installing the flap actuator beam vane brackets, referred to as the flap vane brackets, may have resulted in gaps between flap vane brackets and the adjacent lower skin and between the flap vane brackets and the vane actuator beam. This condition could result in the premature development of cracks in the flap vane brackets, and if not corrected, lead to in- flight loss of the flap vane and subsequent reduced controllability of the aircraft.
